Travel Photography – Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in Sierra Nevada mountains, in the United States. It is located along the border between California and Nevada at 6,225 ft elevation. Lake Tahoe has a maximum depth of 1,645 feet being the second deepest lake in the U.S. Modern Lake Tahoe was shaped and landscaped by glaciers during the Ice Ages. The area around Lake Tahoe was originally inhabited by the Native Americans from the Washoe tribe. Upon discovery of gold, thousands of gold seekers passed by on their way to west.
Today, Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction.
It is home to a great number of summer outdoor recreation activities, ski resorts, and other tourist attractions. The majority of the ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe region are on the northern end of the lake. From late spring to early fall, the lake is popular for water sports and beach activities. Other popular activities include parasailing, jet ski rentals and eco-friendly paddle sport rentals. Boating is a primary activity in Lake Tahoe in the summer. There are numerous hiking and mountain biking trails around the lake. Gambling is legal on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. Several casinos are located on the North Shore in Crystal Bay and Incline Village as well as on the South Shore in Stateline.
